UK Visa Points Calculator

The UK's points-based immigration system was introduced in December 2020, following the country's exit from the European Union. This system determines visa eligibility by awarding points for specific criteria such as skills, qualifications, salary, and proficiency in English.

Our calculator below helps you determine if you meet the requirements for a Skilled Worker visa based on the current Home Office guidelines. This tool provides an estimate only - official decisions are made by UK Visas and Immigration based on your complete application.

Skilled Worker Visa Requirements

The Skilled Worker visa is the UK's primary work visa route. To qualify, you need to score a total of 70 points, with certain criteria being mandatory and others tradeable.

Mandatory Requirements (50 points)

  • Job offer from an approved sponsor - 20 points

You must have a job offer from an employer with a valid UK sponsorship license. Our Companies Directory lists all licensed sponsors.

  • Job at appropriate skill level - 20 points

Your job must be at RQF level 3 or above (equivalent to A-level qualification). This includes trades, skilled occupations, and professional roles.

  • English language proficiency - 10 points

You must prove English language ability at level B1 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Tradeable Points (need 20 additional points)

CriteriaPointsRequirements

Salary Thresholds

There are two salary thresholds to consider:

  • General salary threshold: Currently £26,200 per year
  • Going rate for the occupation: Varies by job, based on UK average salaries

You must meet both thresholds unless you qualify for certain exceptions. Our calculator will help determine if your offered salary meets the requirements for your specific occupation.

Health and Care Visa

The Health and Care Worker visa is a sub-category of the Skilled Worker route with some key differences:

  • Fast-track visa processing
  • Reduced application fees
  • Exemption from the Immigration Health Surcharge
  • Still requires 70 points and sponsorship from an approved employer
